Chapter 2


Chapter 2 begins with a snow day. It started to rain hard & then soon turned to snow & the winds blowing pretty hard. Needless to say cycling was out of the question, so we lost  Sat. completely. Sunday was a good news, bad news day. The good news is it turned very nice in San Diego & I completed the 18 miles & got to the Pacific ocean. The bad news , it was140 miles round trip in the truck from camp at Live Oaks Springs to San Diego and back to camp.
The good news is we got back to camp & the 8 " snow we got was almost gone & the roads were good. We were able to get the trailer out and down the road .Back on my bike to get as far as I could the rest of the day. The bad news is we have lost a lot of daylight & won't make our pre-determined destination at Brawley, CA. We did get to a small community called Seely which is about 6 miles west of ElCentro. It looks like we will lose a day early in the ride. The good news is I saw my first RoadRunner today-bad news is no sign of Wylie Coyote. I'll sign off with this observation. In western Montana every 3rd vehicle is a logging truck, in southern Ca. every 3rd vehicle is a Border Patrol. We are safe and all is going to be good as we are now seeing some sunshine.

    What a start to your adventure. The weather can only get better. Practice your spanish on the border patrol and see if they have a sense of humor. Glad Vargie is posting daily. Have a super day today.

    Hey Mike! Rela & I got your map posted at work today. I might try to email a picture to your gmail acc't--along with a donation $$$ update! It's a balmy 34* here--everyone is talking about starting to wear shorts. We have the darn wind still but no new snow in Kal for the last 24 hours! Keep up the great work. I'm headed to VA to see my grandkids March 4-13 but will ask Rela/Brenda to keep the updates posted. Ride on! Laurie

    Hey Mike, don't feel bad. My running friend and I drove all the way down to the Snow Joke and ended up driving back. The wind was bitter cold, -14 @ 10:30.. better off safe than sorry huh? Tried to make it up on the treadmill with a 10 mile run :). K, I have a joke for you that my son just told me:: how do you give Lady Gaga a black eye? P-p-p poker face. Now that you have all that time to think, we are expecting some good ones from you! :-) Heather

    I ran a total for pledges today--$1537.00. I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of the map & signs we put up on the FE. I'll get one when I get back from vacation.
